Kellenberger–White were commissioned by Origamo for the Meran / Merano Tourist Authority to bring a sense of place and to attract tourism to the town through its weekly food and crafts market. The starting point for this project was just a simple cobblestone taken from the long, ancient high street of this idyllic Tyrolean town, which is in northern Italy near the border with Austria. We developed a typeface based on the patterns of the cobbled streets to create a trilingual identity (German, Italian, English) and marketing applications, both print and digital. We also created 2D designs for the market stalls, which included a cobble-patterned tarpaulin, heat-stamped crates and a range of recycled paper bags. Opening every Saturday, the market has galvanised the local businesses who produce crafts and grow regional produce to sell from its stalls, as well as reaching out to the wider community.
