Identity, website, festival campaign material
London, 2015, 2016–
Block Universe is an annual festival that was new on the art scene in 2014. Commissioned to make an identity and campaign scheme for the first edition of the festival, we decided to combine a literal interpretation of the festival’s name with the optical effects and spatial movement conjured by abstract modernist art. Experimenting with a block of nine black squares on a lightbox, we created a bespoke typeface, set on brightly coloured gradient photograms, for the campaign identity.
In addition to the original catalogue and publicity designs, we introduced a new website (blockuniverse.co.uk) for the 2016 festival in collaboration with web developers Twelve, which carried our original conception from print to the internet. The website features a ticket sales facility, as well as an archive of programmes for previous festivals and other material.
